Award-winning chef Tommy Banks has confirmed that a stolen van loaded with 2,500 pies worth £25,000 has been found by local police. The refrigerated vehicle was on its way to York Christmas Market when it was allegedly stolen from a business park in Melmerby, near Ripon. Banks believes the incident happened overnight on Sunday.
The white Fiat Ducato van, which contained steak and ale, turkey and cranberry, and butternut squash pies, was discovered abandoned with false license plates by North Yorkshire police in the Hemlington area within Middlesbrough. However, the chef stated he is unaware if the huge quantity of pies remains in the back of the vehicle.
An investigation has been launched by local police into the pie theft. And they are asking anyone who may have information on the incident to get in touch.
