Man arrested on suspicion of rape at Groucho Club


A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of raping a woman at The Groucho Club, a private members’ club in London’s Soho district. The Metropolitan Police reported that the alleged attack occurred on November 13. A 34-year-old man from Hertfordshire was arrested on Saturday and currently remains in custody.

The news comes after Westminster City Council closed the celebrity hotspot following allegations of a “recent serious criminal offence”. The council suspended The Groucho Club’s license for up to 28 days upon the Metropolitan Police’s request. A full hearing to discuss the license will take place.

At present, there are no claims that venue employees were associated with the crime. The victim is being offered specialist assistance by trained staff. The Groucho Club opened in 1985 as an informal alternative to traditional gentlemen’s clubs. It boasts a thriving following amongst A-list celebrities.
