Holloway: 100 firefighters tackle blaze at takeaway and flats

A large fire is currently being fought by approximately 100 firefighters in a takeaway restaurant in north London. The London Fire Brigade has confirmed that half of the ground floor of the building on Seven Sisters Road in Holloway is alight and that part of two flats on the first and second floors are on fire too. Although the cause of the fire is currently unknown, the brigade received 19 calls about it, with the first one coming in at 03:45 GMT.

Station Commander Mike Watts confirmed at the scene that road closures have been put in place and advised people to avoid the area due to the traffic congestion and smoke. “The fire is producing a lot of smoke in the vicinity, and local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed while we work to bring the fire under control,” he said. The brigade has deployed 15 fire engines to the site, including crews from Euston, Kentish Town, and Islington.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Thursday, ten fire engines and 70 firefighters attended a fire in West Hampstead in north London. The fire broke out reportedly at an end-of-terrace house converted into flats on Lyncroft Gardens. The roof of the building was alight, and firefighters evacuated approximately 25 people to safety. The London Fire Brigade said that there were no reports of any injuries and that Station Commander Ken Spratt was overseeing the situation and setting up West Hampstead Fire Station as a rest centre for affected residents.

Both fires were brought under control by 05:23, though the London Fire Brigade remained at both locations to monitor the situation and ensure that the fire did not reignite. As always in such circumstances, the brigade has reminded people to check their fire alarms and keep their fire safety measures in good condition to avoid similar incidents
