The Conservative party’s leader Kemi Badenoch has acknowledged that the party had made mistakes in immigration policies and expressed firm commitment to the reintroduction of the “strict numerical cap” on migration. During a recent press conference, Badenoch pledged a review of “every policy, treaty and part of our legal framework”, including the role of the European Convention on Human Rights and Human Rights Act, to control the number of migrants accessing the UK public services. She, however, did not mention the new cap the party would set if it wins the next election.

The Labour Party welcomed the Conservatives’ recognition of the ballooning immigration, accepting that it spiralled out of control during the Conservatives’ years in government.
Badenoch has proposed “zero tolerance” for foreign criminals in the UK, tightening access to British passports and a “deterrent” approach to control migration as part of the Conservative Party’s new migration policy. The Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage, criticized the Conservatives, saying “they broke their promises on immigration after the 2010, 2015, 2017 and 2019 manifestos,” and noted there was no reason to believe them now.
Badenoch mentioned that the UK could not sustain the number of immigrants that the country has seen and that the country would suffer as a result of not having a shared national identity. She added that the tie that binds the country has started to fray, causing the reduction of the quality of life for people already in the UK. This is not the first time that Badenoch has criticized her party’s record on immigration. She had previously accused the Treasury of pushing migration up because it was good for the economy at this year’s Conservative Party Conference
