Major incident declared at Arrowe Park Hospital over cyber issue

Wirral University Teaching Hospital has declared a major incident due to “cyber security reasons,” it said in a statement. The ongoing incident, located in the Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral, is projected to lead to decreased performance at the hospital. The Trust requested that patients only seek medical attention if they have a “genuine emergency.”

The hospital continued to say that their business continuity procedures remained in place, and their primary objective was to ensure patient safety. They also confirmed that the emergency department and assessment areas would have longer waits as a result of the issue.

The hospital recommended people experiencing non-emergency medical issues consider alternative sources of assistance, such as NHS 111, walk-in centres, urgent treatment centres, GPs, or pharmacists.

Merseyside Police said the incident was not being investigated. No additional details about the nature of the cyber attack are available at this time
