Elton John album on hold because he 'can't see' after eye infection

Sir Elton John has revealed that he has been struggling with his eyesight after contracting an infection in July. The music icon has been unable to see out of his right eye for the past four months while his left is “not the greatest”. In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, Sir Elton said he has been unable to complete his new album as a result. He stated that he cannot see a lyric to start recording and that he is currently “stuck at the moment”.

The 74-year-old was asked about the status of the album and said he did not know, as it has been a while since he “has done anything”. He went on to say that he is concentrating on treatment for his eyesight, and that “there’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK”. Sir Elton said in 2023 that he had “just finished” the album with lyricist Bernie Taupin. However, the revelation in his most recent interview suggests that the album is still some way from completion.

Despite his health challenges, the singer has continued to make public appearances. In September, he attended the premieres of his new documentary Never Too Late in Toronto and London and appeared at the opening of his musical Tammy Faye on Broadway earlier this month. He also joined Dua Lipa on stage in October at the Royal Albert Hall and performed their popular duet Cold Heart.

Sir Elton’s health issues follow a year-long delay to his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour due to Covid-19 restrictions, which he resumed in New Orleans last month. The tour is set to continue across North America until March 2023, before moving to Europe in May 2023
