Adele: Superstar cries as she ends her Las Vegas residency

After two years of weekend residency at the 4,000-capacity Caesars Palace, British superstar Adele played her emotional 100th and final show in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The experience proved emotionally draining to Adele, who often interacted with fans. During her residency, she made headlines defending a fan who was told to sit down at one of her concerts, and burst into tears on spotting Celine Dion at her concert.

Adele’s Vegas residency was initially set to start in January 2022, but was cancelled just 24 hours before the first show was due to begin following a Covid outbreak among production staff and delays in finishing the set. Her albums 19, 21, 25 and 30 have all been massive worldwide successes. Earlier this year, she said she plans to take a “big break” from music after her current run of concerts.

In July, the Rolling In The Deep singer revealed she had plans to take an extended break from music. In an interview with German broadcaster ZDF, she said: “My tank is quite empty at the minute. I don’t have any plans for new music at all. I want a big break after all this and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while. You know, I don’t even sing at home at all. How strange is that?” One of the reasons she cited was her struggle with the limelight.

Adele has always been passionate about English literature and has previously expressed her desire to study for an English Literature degree to become a teacher once she took a break from music. She said, “That’s my plan for 2025, just to get the qualification.” She added, “I definitely think I use my passion for English lit in what I do. I wish I’d gone to university and had that experience, but I will do it online with a tutor.
