Widespread disruption is being caused by Storm Bert, which continues to bring heavy snowfall, rain, and strong winds to parts of the UK. Much of Scotland, alongside parts of northern and central England, has seen snowfall with southern England and Wales being hit by strong winds and heavy rain. Despite the lifting of earlier amber weather warnings, several yellow weather warnings remain in place and communities have been told to expect power cuts and flooding. Travel routes have also been impacted, with some roads closed and trains cancelled.
BBC’s Weather Watchers group has showcased the weather in the UK with viewers capturing shots of the storm. Snow has created blanket-like scenes in East Renfrewshire and Balerno, northern Scotland, while a tractor was seen fighting through heavy snowfall in the village of Meikleour, Perth, and Kinross. Storm Bert has also caused flooding problems in Northern Ireland, and wind gusts have reached 70mph in the south west of England. The remainder of the United Kingdom has seen heavy rain and strong winds.
The continued disruption from the storm follows a severe flood warning in parts of England which lasted for several days, while Scotland has been hit hard by snow in recent weeks. The UK’s Met Office has predicted icy conditions, and temperatures are set to drop in Scotland as well. The Environment Agency has warned further flooding is possible in the coming days, with heavy rain expected across central and northern England throughout the week.
People across the UK have been warned to stay indoors and not go outside unless absolutely necessary. Public transportation like trains and buses have been cancelled or delayed in many parts of the country. Traveling in these adverse weather conditions is dangerous, so people are advised to stay home and avoid traveling unless necessary. Additional weather updates should be monitored to stay informed on current weather conditions
