A man has been taken into custody by the police on suspicion of murder after a victim was killed in a shooting and another critically injured in Birmingham. Law enforcement discovered the deceased man, who was in his 20s, in a car, while the other was located at a nearby bus stop after attempting to escape the gunman. The incident occurred on Rotten Park Road in Edgbaston a few minutes before 23:00 GMT on Friday. A suspect in his 30s is currently in custody while police investigate the crime scene.
A local citizen, Mohammed Faisal, who resides near the spot where the cordoned area was established on Rotten Park Road, announced that he heard gunshots while sitting and watching his television. Faisal stated that he heard two shots, quickly followed by a third. He claimed, “Five minutes later I saw the blue lights turn up, and I knew something terrible had happened.” After viewing the scene, he realized it was not a mere accident but something much more significant.
Police officials have urged anyone with dashcam footage or mobile phone footage from the area at the time to come forward and provide it to the authorities. The injured man, who is in his 30s, was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition, according to West Midlands Police.
“This is a tragic incident, and we have worked through the night to understand exactly what happened,” said Det Insp Nick Barnes, adding that “We’ve already made good progress and arrested a suspect, but I still need to hear from anyone who was in the area that we’ve not already spoken to.” His comments stressed that the police are seeking more information to assist in the investigation.
The event sparked anxiety and concern in the area, especially for parents with children. Faisal also expressed his distress by saying, “It’s extremely worrying, especially when you have children living here like I do. You don’t want something like this happening near your home.” Concerns for the public’s safety and the motive behind the shooting have not been fully determined as of yet
