Man, 92, to go on trial for historic Bristol rape and murder case


A man who is now 92 years old will stand trial for rape and murder charges dating back 57 years ago. The victim, Louisa Dunne, was 75 years old and was battered on her living room floor. Her body was discovered by a neighbor on June 28, 1967, located in Easton, Bristol.

Ryland Headley of Clarence Road, Ipswich, has been charged by the Avon and Somerset Police. Due to the additional forensic examination of some items, Headley was charged recently. His trial, which has been scheduled to take place before a High Court judge, is expected to last up to three weeks, starting from June 16.

The defendant, who was brought into custody, has been accused of the rape and murder of Ms. Dunne during the dates between June 26 and June 29 in 1967. A plea and trial preparation hearing has been scheduled on February 14.

His application for bail has been denied.
