Mohamed Al Fayed’s sexual abuse allegations could potentially be on the same level as those made against Jimmy Savile, according to the newly appointed Harrods survivor’s advocate. There was a wave of allegations connected to the late billionaire businessman after a September BBC documentary featuring the stories of twenty women. Dame Jasvinder Sanghera, who was recently employed to assist those who survived the businessman’s abuse, communicated that she had been contacted by a former pupil of a school for deaf children. She said that Al Fayed had access to vulnerable young females from the school, and that her information indicated that his “tentacles went far and wide.”
The school, however, has refuted this assertion, stating that it was unaware of Al Fayed’s access to the school and that it has taken safeguarding precautions seriously. Dame Jasvinder, speaking on BBC Radio 4’s “World at One” program, stated that the scale of abuse allegations could match those made against Savile. Around 290 women are place in the Harrods compensation scheme, with more that have come forward since the BBC documentary, declaring acts of abuse and indecency perpetrated by Al Fayed, including rape, sexual harassment, and sexual assault. However, Dame Jasvinder believes that there are more who have yet to come forward.
The Harrods compensation scheme is only accessible to former employees so that anyone who is not in the program can be assisted with support or refer to the suitable support options through coming forward. The scale of abuse was wide, not just confined to Harrods. He was thought to abuse women at Ritz Paris hotel and Fulham FC. Al Fayed used his power and influence, while many people looked the other way. Dame Jasvinder campaigned for human rights and was the founder of the charity Karma Nirvana. She has discussed parents forcing her teenage self into a marriage, and she eventually left and was rejected by her family.
