Moss Side double murder inquiry launched after two stabbed

Police have launched a double murder inquiry after two people were stabbed in the Moss Side area of Manchester. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that despite the best efforts of emergency services, both victims died at the scene. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. A cordon has been established and police have asked people to avoid the area.

At around 05:00 GMT, emergency services were called to Great Southern Street in Moss Side, where they discovered the victims, who were pronounced dead on site. At present, the identities of the deceased have not been released and police have not given any indication about the circumstances of the incident. Within the taped-off police cordon, a green bike could be seen lying in the road next to a parked car. Officers were patrolling the scene.

The community is in shock following the incident, with local residents expressing concerns about the safety of their neighbourhood. One female resident said: “It’s very, very scary. I worry about my kids because the place is not safe.” Another resident described the event as “a complete shock” as there has never been anything like it in the area before. The police have advised people to avoid the area as they continue to investigate the incident.

The incident has caused widespread concern on social media platforms, with people expressing their distress and shock at the tragedy. The double murder has also raised concerns about knife crime in the wider Manchester area, with Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, expressing his distress at the incident and emphasising the importance of tackling knife crime in the region.
