Catfish killer used my photo as bait for others – victim


A new BBC Three documentary called Teen Predator/Online Killer has featured three victims of Alexander McCartney, one of the world’s most prolific online sex offenders. McCartney was found guilty of a string of child sex offences and the manslaughter of Cimarron Thomas, a 12-year-old American girl who took her own life minutes after an online chat with him in 2018. McCartney admitted using a pre-typed message to reveal his true identity as an online predator to girls he targeted, including the three who spoke to the BBC. The documentary highlights how important it is for any victim of online abuse to be able to report it.
