Queen to miss Remembrance events after chest infection


Buckingham Palace has announced that the Queen will not be able to attend Remembrance events this weekend due to a chest infection. The Palace has said that Queen Camilla is “following doctors’ guidance to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection, and to protect others from any potential risk.” The 77-year-old Queen will mark the occasion privately at home, but plans to return to public duties early next week.

There is no cause for alarm regarding her condition, and the Queen is reportedly disappointed that she cannot attend the Remembrance events this weekend. However, the Royal Family will still attend the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening, as well as the Sunday service at the Cenotaph.

King Charles, who is still receiving treatment for his own cancer, will lay a wreath on behalf of the nation at the memorial in Whitehall, central London. It is understood that his treatment was paused during their overseas trip, but will commence again upon their return to the UK.

The Queen had already withdrawn from previous events earlier in the week due to her condition. This included missing the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, where she was represented by the Duchess of Gloucester. She also withdrew from a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
