Four adults and a teenager from West Bromwich have been accused of murder and violent disorder in connection with the death of Matthew Adams, a 33-year-old father of two. Mr Adams suffered injuries when he was attacked at the Gough Arms pub in Jowetts Lane, West Bromwich, during March last year. He subsequently returned to his home in Walsall, before an ambulance was called for him on 23 March when he died in hospital that day.
Those accused of murder and violent disorder are Mark Shorthouse, 53, Ryan Stanley, 30, John Wise, 42 and a 16-year-old boy. Another defendant, Nichola Stanley, 39, has been charged only with violent disorder. The family of Mr Adams paid tribute to the murdered man, describing him as a son, brother, partner, friend and father of two, who was widely known as “Wacka”.
In a statement, they said: “Matt left a lasting impression with everyone he met with his funny, loving and carefree ways… The loss of Matt has left our world shattered and hearts broken. We take comfort in the fact that anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Matt will carry his kindness and free spirit with them. We would like to thank all who knew Matt for their kind words and condolences at this heartbreaking time.”
The accused will appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday to face charges relating to Mr Adams’s death. West Midlands Police have issued a call for any witnesses who may be able to provide information which could aid their investigation into the events leading up to Mr Adams’s death
