A construction worker was left feeling a little red-faced when his daughter’s bright pink mobile phone became frozen within a newly formed ice rink. The man had put the device on the side of the rink while it was under construction in Milton Keynes. However, when 60,000 litres (13,000 gallons) of water poured into the structure, the phone became frozen within the ice.
The phone will sit in its icy new home for the next two months, bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase “cold call”. Rob Cook, director at Ice Leisure, said that attempts to remove the phone would be too risky and could affect the structure of the ice. Cook explained that they would have to leave the phone in place for the next two months.
It was not until the following day that one of the team members noticed the bright pink object – borrowed by the worker after he misplaced his own phone – frozen in the middle of the rink. The reason for how the phone got there is unclear; it is unknown if it was an accident or if it was the result of a prank by one of the worker’s colleagues.
The construction worker, who asked to remain anonymous, commented on the situation by revealing that his daughter wasn’t pleased at the start but, after being offered a temporary replacement phone, she eventually cooled off. It’s a difficult telephone problem to solve, and it’s extremely unlikely that the phone will be functional once it is extracted from the ice rink
