Police in Greater Manchester have arrested a man following a suspected hit-and-run that left six people injured. The incident occurred in the Openshaw area at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday 27 April. Three children and three adults were taken to hospital following the collision. The vehicle involved did not stop and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward. The arrested man is being held on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, assaulting an emergency worker, and possession of drugs with intent to supply.
The injured were taken to hospital with varying degrees of injury. A number of police vehicles attended the scene, including volunteers from the Greater Manchester Police Road Policing Unit. Footage has emerged on social media of a helicopter flying overhead. GMP has supported the Specialist Operations and Serious Collision Reconstruction Unit. Officers were on the scene of the collision yesterday and an investigation is ongoing.
Police have urged anyone with any information on the incident to report it. The arrested man remains in police custody while enquiries take place. The identity of the arrested man has not yet been released.
The incident has left residents of the Bob Massey Close area shocked. The street is home to many brick-built terrace houses that are typical of the area. There is no indication of any motive for the incident at this stage.
