Prince William has said that his wife, Catherine is recovering well following her treatment for cancer. Speaking to reporters ahead of presenting the environmental Earthshot Prize in Cape Town, South Africa, the Prince of Wales praised the Princess of Wales, explaining she was doing ‘really well.’ For the ceremony, the royal was sporting a friendship bracelet, which his daughter Princess Charlotte had made for him.
The focus of this year’s event was on ideas from Africa, with over 400 African-led projects nominated and a further 350 linked to the continent. The award supports sustainable eco-friendly projects from around the world, with each of the five winners receiving over £1m. The Prince founded the Earthshot Prize in 2020, with the slogan ‘Repair the Planet’.
Prince William has spent a large portion of his time in Cape Town this week focusing on young innovators and their power to bring about change. Speaking of his own family, the Prince spoke of the conversations that his children are having about the environment and how they are trying to do what they can. However, he claimed that Earthshot has far grander ambitions and is committed to influencing comprehensive change and making a real impact.
In his free time, the Prince of Wales had volunteered on wildlife conservation projects in Kenya, Botswana, and Tanzania, and he spoke at length about his love for Africa. He said that he was happy to have the opportunity to return to the continent. When asked how to achieve the Earthshot Prize amid a challenging political climate, William expressed his positivity and believed that there remains hope and urgency for innovation regardless of the challenges
