Tottenham: 'It's a miracle Dad was found 30 years on'


After nearly 30 years of separation, Mika Ap Ellis has finally found her dad. Having only had letters, birthday cards, and photos to maintain any kind of connection between them, Ap Ellis turned to charities and council agencies for help but was met with frustration and dead ends. Everything changed after watching a news segment about cycling group founder, Verral Paul-Walcott, who takes a hands-on approach in distributing food and supplies to the homeless in London. Ap Ellis reached out to him on social media, and within 20 minutes, Paul-Walcott informed her he knew of her father’s whereabouts.

This helped pave the way for the first time Ap Ellis had seen her father in three decades. Paul-Walcott met with Omar, Ap Ellis’ father, and delivered a message to him. Having never heard his own daughter’s voice, Omar recorded a message to his daughter for the first time, which was played for her. After finally meeting in person, Ap Ellis and Omar spent hours catching up. With Verral’s unprecedented success rate in finding the homeless, Ap Ellis describes the experience as a “miracle.”

“It was absolutely amazing, I just couldn’t believe it,” Ap Ellis said. “From that, it took me a long time to get my head around it and try understand what I wanted from meeting my father.” Upon meeting Omar, Ap Ellis said it did not feel like meeting a stranger, but instead felt like home. This bittersweet reunion marks a new chapter in their lives, and with Paul-Walcott’s expertise, many others in similar situations will hopefully have the same heartwarming success
