Sara Sharif: Father tried to save girl, 10, but was told to stop


Urfan Sharif, his wife Beinash Batool, and her brother Faisal Malik, have denied murder and causing or allowing the death of a child after 10-year-old Sara Sharif was found dead with dozens of injuries at the family’s home in Woking. During a court case in London, Mr Sharif testified that he attempted CPR on his daughter, Sara, when he found her “limp” one day. He begged for an ambulance for her as well, but Ms Batool told him in Urdu or Punjabi that she was dead and he should “leave it”. Naeem Mian KC, for Mr Sharif, said Sara’s death was the fault of Ms Batool to the jury.

Mr Sharif also testified that he had never bitten, burnt, or beaten Sara. On a few occasions, he slapped her, but he took several voluntary courses on parenting, nutrition, and paediatric first aid. According to Mr Sharif, he faced some difficulties in his marriage, but Batool was never abused or controlled.
