Five generations of women in Barnsley, England have welcomed a newborn baby girl into the family, making them one of the most unique families in the country. Baby Elizabeth Donald was born to her mother, Chloe Renshaw, who resides in the village of Mapplewell, near to her grandmother Jeannette Renshaw in Staincross and great-grandmother Jean Precious in Darton. The family is further connected to one another by Elizabeth’s great-great-grandmother, Margaret Waterhouse, who is 94 years old and still alive to share in the joy of her great-great-granddaughter’s arrival.
Chloe shared that Margaret was thrilled at the news of Elizabeth’s birth, even crying tears of joy when she learned the baby’s middle name would be Margaret, in honour of her own name. The family is very close-knit and dedicated to spending time together, sharing that they try to see each other at least once a week and that they all make sure to spend time with Margaret. Chloe’s mother, Jeannette, was present for Elizabeth’s birth at Barnsley Hospital and described it as an honour and an “absolutely amazing” experience.
Although the family is unique in their five generations of women, they are not alone in their record-setting position. In 1989, an American woman set a world record when she became a great-great-great-great-grandmother at the age of 109, and in 2017 a Bradford family set a British record when a 103-year-old woman became a great-great-great-grandmother.
Chloe, who worked as a care assistant before becoming a mother, expressed her joy at having the baby she always wanted and revealed that the only thing she still wants is to marry Elizabeth’s father. The family’s dedication to one another and the celebration of five generations of women is an inspiration to others, reminding us of the importance of family connections and the joy they bring to our lives.
