Tube strikes: London Underground walkouts by RMT staff called off

London Underground’s RMT union has called off a planned train strike after reaching a settlement over salaries with Transport for London. The strike had already caused disruption and cancellation of trains, was set to continue throughout the coming weeks with several other planned walkouts. However, a union spokesperson said that the new offer received was “significantly improved”.

Workers had already been facing proposals to change the pay structure, which have now been abandoned. The RMT union spokesperson hailed the decision, stating discussions would continue over the coming week to secure the pay offer. However, strikes by Aslef, another union of Underground drivers, are still scheduled for next week as well as later in the month.

Claire Mann, the Chief Operating Officer at Transport for London, thanked the RMT members on the London Underground. Mann also said the offer would be affordable and beneficial to colleagues as well, and urged Aslef members to call off their planned strike. However, if the latter carries out its walkout, London residents and those travelling in the city should expect limited service.

Transport for London is continuing with other upgrades and implementations of systems across the city, including new advertising deals, more reliable bus timetables, and congestion charge-related alterations
