Surrey: Video shows arrests of Sara Sharif murder accused

The suspects accused of killing Sara Sharif were detained by the police as they arrived back in the UK. The video footage of the moment the police boarded the Emirates flight to detain the suspects was presented to the jury. The father of Sara, Urfan Sharif, his sister Beinash Batool, and their uncle Faisal Malik have been charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. The incident took place a day following Sara’s death at her family residence in Surrey. All three suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The crime reporters present at the trial revealed that Sara’s body was found in a bunk bed at her home on 10 August 2023. The prosecution counsel explained that the police officers approached Mr Sharif and asked him if he had a bag with him when the suspects returned on 13 September. Mr Sharif denied carrying any bags, and the police handcuffed him on the plane. The plane had arrived in Britain after a seven-minute journey from Dubai.

The video recording presented at the court shows the police officers with police identification on their backs boarding the plane from Dubai. The suspects were interviewed separately by the police the next day once all three of them were under detention. However, they all chose to remain silent. The Old Bailey trial also revealed that social services did not take any action despite being informed about the physical abuse that Sara had been going through for over two years.

The case is still ongoing at the Old Bailey. Those interested in keeping updated on the case can follow the BBC Surrey news website and contact their team with any story ideas. The authorities have urged the public to contact the police if they have any information that can help the prosecution with the case
