Micala Trussler, the mother of 15-year-old Holly Newton, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend Logan MacPhail in Hexham, Northumberland, gave a victim impact statement during MacPhail’s sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court. Trussler talked about the phone call she received from a stranger telling her that her daughter had been stabbed, and how traumatic it was for her and her family to see Holly placed into an ambulance. She stated that she will never forget that her daughter was a crime scene and that she was evidence.
Trussler described Logan MacPhail as mild-mannered and polite, and mentioned that he had been invited into her home most weekends. Logan and Holly had a typical teenage relationship, and there were no signs of red flags until the end. Nevertheless, Holly was going through emotional turmoil while trying to end the relationship, and she had confided in her mother that Logan had been stalking her and accessing her social media accounts without her permission.
