Police in Humberside, UK, have arrested six teenagers on suspicion of attempted murder after a 13-year-old girl was found with life-threatening injuries on the side of a road in Hessle. The girl was discovered at around 7am local time on 23 April. Police said she had been stabbed, sustaining injuries to her neck, chest, and abdomen. The six suspects, aged between 14 and 17, were arrested in a nearby wooded area soon after the discovery of the victim. A cordon remains in place in the area.
Detective Superintendent Simon Vickers said that he believed the attackers knew the victim. He commented: “I understand this incident will rightly cause concerns amongst the community and I would like to offer my assurances that as a part of our initial investigation we have six individuals in custody who are all being questioned by detectives. At this time, we do believe the attackers knew the victim and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the incident.” The victim remains in a critical condition in hospital.
The high-profile incident has caused concern in the area. Vickers reassured the public: “there will be a police presence in the area over the weekend”. It is not known at this stage what the motive for the attack might have been.
Humberside Police have appealed for anyone who may have seen anything or who may have information about the case to contact them either by phone or by text. Meanwhile, a cordon remains in place in the area where the suspects were apprehended, next to the A63 dual carriageway
