A Bristol man, Chad Lambert, was recently sentenced to 26 weeks in prison after attempting to escape law enforcement officials by swimming across a lake. The burglary occurred on October 19th of last year when Lambert was seen acting suspiciously in a store on Averay Road. When confronted, he smashed a store window and stole a bottle of wine and the contents of the cash register. He then headed into nearby Eastville Park where he disposed of his clothing and a bag before running into the lake.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing Lambert swim to a small island in the middle of the lake. Police officers chased him on foot before dispatching the drone unit to follow him through the trees and bushes on the island. With assistance from Avon and Fire Rescue Service, the police were able to reach the island using a boat and successfully arrested Lambert.
Lambert pled guilty to the aggravated burglary charge and was ordered to pay £154 in compensation in addition to his prison sentence. This is not the first time Lambert has faced criminal charges. He has previously been convicted of actual bodily harm, threats to kill, and assaulting a police officer.
Residents in the area expressed relief that Lambert was caught and that justice had been served. They commended the police for their swift response and their unwavering commitment to keep the community safe
