Kate Bush says she is 'very keen' to record new music, as she launches animated film

Kate Bush has expressed her eagerness to start working on new music. Even though the “Wuthering Heights” singer has been out of the limelight lately, she told the BBC that she has “lots of ideas” she wishes to pursue. She said, “I’m really looking forward to getting back into that creative space, it’s been a long time.” Bush’s last studio album, 50 Words for Snow, was released in 2011. She has only released live or compilation albums since then.

Bush gave a rare interview to launch a new short film she wrote and directed to raise funds for children affected by war. The black-and-white four-minute animation, “Little Shrew” is set to her 2011 track ‘Snowflake’ and hopes to raise awareness and funds for the charity War Child.

Bush has always been known for hits such as “Babooshka,” “Hounds of Love,” and “King of the Mountain.” She established a new generation of fans in 2022 when one of her most famous songs, “Running Up That Hill,” was featured in the Netflix show Stranger Things.

Although Bush is not working on any new music at the moment, she has been preoccupied with archival work, including designing a new website and creating a lyric book. But, she is excited to work on new music, stating that she has several ideas that she wants to explore. When the presenter, Emma Barnett, addressed Pink Floyd star David Gilmour’s earlier interview in which he urged Bush to perform live again, the singer laughed and said, “I’m not there yet.”

Little Shrew was inspired by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Bush revealed that the idea of the four-minute animation movie was to express the pain and suffering of children in a war-zone. According to her, “I wanted to draw attention to how horrific it is for children and so I came up with this idea for a storyboard and thought that people would be more empathetic towards a creature rather than a human. So I came up with the idea of it being a little shrew.”

Moreover, Bush said, “I think war is horrific for everyone…But for a child, it’s unimaginable how frightening it must be for them…We went through the pandemic, that was a huge shock, and I think we felt that once that was over, we would be able to get on with some kind of normal life. But in fact, it just seems to be going from one situation to another, and more wars seem to be breaking out all the time.” “Little Shrew” is set for release on Bush’s official website and is free to watch. However, it encourages viewers to support organizations that lend aid to children in conflict
