Olympic runner who finished marathon with broken leg resumes training

Despite breaking her leg during the Olympic marathon this summer, Rose Harvey from Evesham, Worcestershire, is set to resume training this week in preparation for the next Olympics and potential intermediate races. After completing 78th place in Paris with a time of 2:51:03 in 24C heat, Harvey has been determined to regain fitness since the games and work hard for her future races.

She reflects on the race recalling it as an “agony”, with moments where she stopped and thought “‘I can’t do this anymore'”. However, she persevered, focusing on the future and asking herself if she would regret not running just an extra five minutes or an extra mile. Although not yet feeling proud of the race, she hopes to eventually have reminiscences she can be proud of.

In addition to her intensive training regime, Harvey wed her partner, Charlie Thuillier, three weeks after the Olympics, using crutches on her special day. Although spending the rest of her wedding day on crutches “was a bit of a pain”, she didn’t let it affect her celebrations.

Harvey now looks ahead, excited for her future and what it holds, with the support of her community and partners alike. She’s looking forward to facing new challenges, transforming and training her mind to be the best that she can be, all the while working towards a coveted Olympic podium finish
