Alex and Sue Tatham, who made history as the first couple to get married after meeting on the classic TV dating programme, Blind Date, have renewed their wedding vows. The couple celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at the St Michael & All Angels Church in the village of Pelsall, Walsall. The couple originally married at the same church on 19th October 1991. Cilla Black, the late host of Blind Date, and her husband, Bobby, attended the renewal ceremony.
Mrs Tatham revealed that she went on the programme after a friend applied on her behalf. The couple was sent to Ireland for their first date and the connection was instant. He likened applying to the show to Love Island or Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, stating that “it was absolutely the show of the moment.”
Coincidentally, the church where the couple exchanged vows celebrated its 180th anniversary on the same weekend as their wedding anniversary. A wedding fayre and service of celebration were held to commemorate the milestone, with the couple in attendance. Mr Tatham expressed his admiration for the church and the Pelsall community, praising their commitment to supporting the church.
Blind Date ran from 1985 to 2003 on ITV and was a popular dating programme hosted by Cilla Black. The show saw couples date others in a bid to find their perfect match. Blind Date has had several revivals since the original show ended, most recently in 2017, with Paul O’Grady as the host. The show provided a stage for many couples, but few have achieved the kind of longevity that Alex and Sue Tatham share
