Naomi Scott: 'We want to find new writers and film makers'

Actress Naomi Scott, known for her role as Princess Jasmine in the 2019 live-action remake of Aladdin, has co-founded a production company called New Name Entertainment with her husband Jordan Spencer. The company has created a special fund to help students from working-class backgrounds attend top drama and film schools. Scott believes that there are barriers to entry in the industry that make it difficult for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed.

The New Name fund not only covers the cost of education but also includes a program of mentoring and career development support. Scott believes that it’s crucial to not only learn the craft but also to navigate the industry. She hopes that the funding will help people from low socioeconomic backgrounds achieve their dreams.

Scott has said that she set up the New Name fund because she believes that people from lower socioeconomic situations or from unsupportive environments aren’t set up for success. While she acknowledges that the company can’t do everything, she hopes that it can do its part to help people have a clearer path to what they want to do.

Currently starring in the horror film Smile 2, Scott has claimed she loves the city of London. When not filming, she enjoys riding the Tube, which reminds her of being a teenager and feeling independent. She loves being in London and says it’s the best city in the world
