Nicholas Rossi, the man who resisted extradition from Scotland for two years while claiming mistaken identity, has confessed that he is the same person as Arthur Knight. During a bail hearing in one of his two rape cases in Utah, Rossi denied that he had fled the country in 2017 to evade arrest and claimed that he left the United States fearing for his life and then used the name of an Irish orphan, Arthur Knight, to escape the threats.
While addressing the court, Rossi spoke with an American accent and stated that he left his birth country and later adopted an alias to evade danger. It was in December 2021 that Rossi was apprehended for Covid-19 treatment at a Glasgow hospital when the management recognized his tattoos. This led to his arrest and decision for extradition by Angela Constance, the Justice Secretary, in September 2023, following two years of trials and continued claims that he was mistakingly identified.
Rossi maintained during the latest hearing that he used the alias Arthur Knight as his life was under threat from elected officials in Rhode Island. However, when the prosecutor requested Rossi to identify the people who threatened him and his family, he refused, stating that he did not want to give cheese to a mouse. This prompted the Utah Fourth District Judge Derek Pullan to briefly close the court and hear evidence in private. Rossi’s bail request was denied, and not guilty pleas were entered by his attorney ahead of another hearing in two weeks.
The story of Nicholas Rossi can now be seen on BBC iPlayer in a program titled Unmasking A Fugitive. The program chronicles the narrative of an American fugitive who arrived in the United Kingdom with a new identity
