University of East Anglia student dies after gym incident


A student has died after experiencing a medical emergency while working out at a gym located on the grounds of the University of East Anglia in Norwich. The police were notified by the ambulance service around 7 pm that they were attending to “a medical incident involving a man who had been using gym equipment.” A man in his twenties was attended by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene. The individual has not been identified by the authorities.

Norfolk Police said the gym where the medical emergency occurred was evacuated while emergency services attended to the individual. A police cordon has been put in place around the gym. According to the police, the death is considered unexplained and investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. The family of the deceased has been informed of his plight according to the police.

The University of East Anglia confirmed the deceased was a student, noting the site would be closed for the meantime. They said they are providing support to their staff. Pictures show the presence of many emergency service vehicles on the scene, including a forensics van. The East of England Ambulance Service has been approached for a comment on the incident.
