The son of renowned British photojournalist Paul Lowe has been charged with his murder. The body of Mr Lowe, 61, was found at a hiking trail in California last weekend. Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Mr Lowe’s 19-year-old son, Emir, had been charged with his murder. Emir Lowe is due to make his first court appearance at the West Covina Courthouse on Wednesday.
The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner revealed that Mr Lowe had been stabbed in the neck according to reports. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said: “The District Attorney’s office filed one count of murder on suspect Emir Lowe for the murder of his father Christian Paul Lowe. There is no additional information at this time.”
The incident occurred at around 15:28 at Mount Baldy Road, near Stoddard Canyon Falls. Reports suggest that officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and found a “white male adult suffering trauma to his upper torso”. Mr Lowe was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. A white male adult was seen leaving the scene of the crime and was later detained following a solo traffic collision a few miles away.
King’s College London, where Mr Lowe was a visiting professor in war studies, said it was deeply saddened by the news of Professor Paul Lowe’s passing. They said the acclaimed artist would be “deeply missed”. Paul was a Professor of Photojournalism at the University of the Arts London and an award-winning photojournalist with VII Academy. They added that his boundless energy, warmth, creativity, initiative and enthusiasm were contagious and uniquely inspiring. “We send our deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.
