Covid-19 vaccine: Omagh man wants help after 'life ruined' by jab

Larry Lowe, a previously fit and healthy 54-year-old from Omagh, Northern Ireland, claims that his life has been destroyed by the Pfizer Covid vaccine. Lowe was an avid runner, running 10km most days, until he received the booster shot on 15 December 2021. Within a few days, he started to experience numbness in the right side of his face, which worsened with time. Doctors across the UK have since told him that the vaccine is to blame for the ongoing symptoms that have spread throughout his body.

In April 2024, Lowe was diagnosed by a consultant neurologist with a “painful trigeminal neuropathy” which had “the Covid vaccine as its main causative factor.” He has also developed a small fibre sensory neuropathy. His condition has caused him to struggle with everyday tasks such as walking, and he now suffers from dry eye syndrome and sensitivity to light. As a musician and former college lecturer, Lowe had to medically retire, and he now considers his life barely worth living.

Despite his diagnosis, the Public Health Agency (PHA) said that the benefits of the vaccine in preventing Covid-19 and serious complications associated with it far outweighed any currently known side effects in the majority of patients. The PHA added that all vaccinations and medications could have some side effects, and the most common side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine are mild and get better within a week.

Lowe is not opposed to vaccines but stated that his life had been destroyed, adding that he and his family had gone from a fantastic, normal life to a world turned upside down. While he praised all the medical professionals who tried to help him, he said he had exhausted all available medication and treatments in the UK. His wife, Gini, stated that Larry cries and screams at night with the pain, and they have lost part of Larry.

According to Pfizer, hundreds of millions of doses of the vaccine had been administered globally, and the benefit-risk profile remains positive for all authorised indications and age groups. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency is responsible for regulating medicines, including vaccines, and conducts robust safety monitoring and surveillance of all Covid-19 vaccines in the UK. Vaccination remains the single most effective way to reduce deaths and severe illness from Covid-19, according to the agency
