Jay Blades in court: BBC presenter denies coercive behaviour


Jay Blades, the presenter of BBC’s primetime show The Repair Shop, has pleaded not guilty to charges of controlling or coercive behaviour towards his estranged wife, Lisa-Marie Zbozen. The charges relate to events that took place between 1 January 2023 and 12 September this year, and the alleged behaviour caused Ms Zbozen to fear violence on at least two occasions. Mr Blades was charged last month and appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Friday to enter his plea.

The judge, James Burbidge KC, rejected an application for part of the proceedings to be heard in private. He also removed a bail condition that required Mr Blades to wear an electronic tag, which had not yet been fitted due to the company responsible’s “failings.” Despite this, Mr Blades remains subject to an exclusion order.

Mr Blades found fame on TV in 2017 when The Repair Shop launched, and he was later awarded an MBE for his services to craft. His trial is expected to take place on 6 May next year. Following the 12-minute hearing, Mr Blades left the court without commenting
