Holly Newton: 'I instantly knew my daughter's ex had killed her'


Holly Newton was only 15 years old when she was murdered by her teenage ex-boyfriend in January of last year. Although she was too young to be considered a victim of domestic violence, Holly’s family believes that her tragic death should be recognized as such to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. When Holly’s mother, Micala Trussler, received a call one Friday night informing her that her daughter had been stabbed in Hexham, Northumberland, she knew right away who the attacker was.

Logan MacPhail, who is now 17, was obsessed with Holly during their on-and-off 18-month relationship and wanted to control her, according to Micala. He became jealous when Holly spent time with friends or went out without him and demanded to always know her whereabouts. In short, he was controlling. Despite breaking up with him multiple times, MacPhail threatened to end his life to make Holly feel guilty.
