Gavin and Stacey cast 'in tears' as show wraps, says Alison Steadman

Alison Steadman, who stars in Gavin and Stacey, has revealed that the cast were emotional during the final scenes of the TV programme. Steadman stated that after filming the last episode of the hit show, “90% of us were in tears.” Steadman recently spoke to the BBC One Show and revealed that everyone was dreading the end of the series.

In May, the show’s co-creators, Ruth Jones and James Corden, announced that Gavin and Stacey would return for one last episode to be broadcast on Christmas Day. Since September, fans have been queuing up to catch a glimpse of Jones and fellow cast member Joanna Page as they film the show in various locations throughout the Vale of Glamorgan.

Steadman, who plays the role of Gavin’s mother Pam, reflected on reading the original script, which had amazing writing from Corden and Jones. She said, “When I read the first scene, I thought I’ve got to do this. I couldn’t wait, I was going through the script and they didn’t let me down.”

The show’s festive episode in 2019 had an audience of 11.6 million viewers on Christmas Day, making it the largest festive special since 2008. It eventually attracted 17.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched scripted programme of the decade. It was awarded the impact award at the 2020 National Television Awards.

The final episode of Gavin and Stacey will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on Christmas Day. Fans of the show have been visiting famous locations throughout the Vale of Glamorgan since filming began in September. “People come from England they could come and think ‘Oh, let’s go to Barry. Oh, that’s Gavin and Stacey’s place – let’s go there!'” said fan Owain Cleese
