A trial involving a 14-year-old girl who was accused of attempting to murder two teachers and a student at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, has collapsed as a result of a “great irregularity in the jury”, according to Judge Paul Thomas KC of Swansea Crown Court. While the girl had pleaded guilty to three counts of wounding with intention, she had maintained that she was innocent of three charges of attempted murder. The trial began on Tuesday with the jury deliberating on Wednesday. However, it was suddenly dismissed by Judge Thomas the following day, and a retrial is now due to begin in January 2020.
Describing the halt of the trial as “very unsatisfactory,” Judge Thomas explained that all parties had agreed that an irregularity in the jury had prevented any kind of fair consideration of the case.
