Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has refused accusations of being a “liar.” In an interview with the BBC’s Matt Chorley on Radio 5 Live, Johnson defended Vote Leave’s claims during the 2016 EU referendum and questioned why the rival Remain campaign wasn’t labeled as “a bunch of liars” due to their claims.
Johnson’s comments come ahead of a legal challenge heard in Scotland this week that questions the legality of the UK’s Brexit process. The plaintiff, Joanna Cherry, is a Scottish National Party MP and part of the legal challenge against Prime Minister Boris Johnson. She referred to Johnson’s statements as “lies” as he suspended Parliament earlier this month.
The UK is due to leave the EU on 31 October, but the potential outcomes of Brexit remain uncertain. A no-deal Brexit could affect international trade, while British expats living in EU countries are concerned that their rights may be impacted.
The UK government has stated that it is asking the EU for changes to the Brexit deal, but EU officials have maintained that the deal is non-negotiable.
