Former Metropolitan Police Officer David Carrick is set to appear in court on 17 October, charged with eight sexual offences. The allegations involve two women and include five counts of indecent assault, two of rape and one of sexual assault. Hertfordshire Constabulary has also charged Carrick with one count of coercive and controlling behaviour. The charges follow a “complex” investigation that took several months, according to Detective Chief Inspector Iain Moor from the Hertfordshire police major crime unit.
Carrick was previously employed by the Paraliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command at the Met. He is based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Details of the alleged offences have yet to be revealed.
Carrick is the latest former Met police officer to face similar charges this year. Earlier this month, former inspector David Lomax was jailed for five years after pleading guilty to multiple rapes and sexual assaults. Meanwhile, earlier this year, former Met officer Wayne Couzens was charged with the kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard.
Carrick will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later this month. The announcement of his charges prompted comments from the director of victim services at rape crisis charity, Oh Zina, who called for a “lonely” overhaul of rape and sexual assault allegations.
