A former junior doctor who had worked at the same hospital as nurse Lucy Letby has testified that he was “misled” and “manipulated” by her. The doctor, known as Dr. U, stated that he was duped into providing information about babies Letby had attacked. He further expressed his regret at supporting the nurse when she raised a grievance against the hospital. Dr. U testified at an inquiry looking into Letby’s murder and attack of infants at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2015 and 2016. It was revealed that the two exchanged 1355 messages over Facebook.
Dr. U claimed that he believed Letby was struggling with her mental health and finding it difficult to sleep due to worry and anxiety. He answered questions regarding why he helped Letby when she filed a grievance against the hospital instead of backing his consultant colleagues, who voiced their concerns about her.
