Newcastle to host 2025 MOBO Awards for the first time


Newcastle is set to host the MOBO Awards in 2025, marking the first time the event will take place in the city. Since 1996, the awards have recognized black musicians, honouring iconic figures such as Beyoncé, Stomzy and Little Simz. Ahead of the ceremony, organisers will hold the MOBO Fringe Festival, which will feature a series of events celebrating black music and culture.

The event is scheduled to take place on the 18th of February at the Utilita Arena. Speaking about the upcoming award ceremony, Kanya King CBE, founder and CEO of MOBO Group, praised the city: “Newcastle is a city steeped in history, culture, and a dynamic sense of community alongside an electric nightlife, making it the perfect host city.”

Last year the award ceremony was held in Sheffield, where current showbiz stars such as Raye, Central Cee and Potter Payper took home top prizes. The MOBO awards give African and Caribbean communities, known for their contribution to popular music, a platform to showcase their talents and give recognition to their hard work.
