The Duke of Sussex has returned to the UK for the WellChild charity’s annual awards ceremony. Prince Harry, who is the patron of the charity, celebrated the accomplishments of young people and their families dealing with severe health conditions. He attended the event held at a central London hotel, where he praised the children and teenagers recognised at the ceremony, calling them “little legends”. He stated that they remind him “of the strength of the human spirit” and thanked them for uplifting those around them.
Prince Harry travelled without his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, who remained at their home in California. The Duke has only visited the UK a few times since moving to America, all for charitable events. Most recently, he attended a private visit in August to attend a memorial service for his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, who passed away earlier in the summer.
Prince Harry’s trip back to the UK has reignited speculations about his relationship with the royal family. Although it is unknown whether he will see his father, who is currently at Balmoral in Scotland, or his brother, who is in Windsor, the Prince has not received any comments from Buckingham Palace or Kensington Palace.
Before the ceremony, Prince Harry met with award winners and their families. He had a lively exchange with a seven-year-old boy with complex medical conditions named Noah Nicholson, who repeatedly threw his toys on the floor. Prince Harry laughed and chatted with the boy, saying, “don’t apologise. I love it.”
Prince Harry has been a patron of WellChild for over 15 years. According to Matt James, the charity’s Chief Executive, the Prince’s involvement with the organisation is significant and provides a platform for families to share their stories, increasing awareness and support for those facing similar challenges
