Passengers of the Villa Vie Residences’ Odyssey cruise ship have been delayed for four months in Belfast due to repairs but were due to depart on Monday evening. However, passengers were waiting for the ship to arrive at the departure dock, causing further delays. The CEO of Villa Vie, Mike Petterson, told passengers they were waiting for some paperwork to be completed before they could set off. The Odyssey was scheduled to depart on 30 May but was delayed due to repairs.
Passengers arrived at Belfast cruise terminal on Monday, forming queues with their luggage in anticipation of boarding the Odyssey. Despite the delays they’ve faced so far, the passengers are excited about the possibility of finally setting sail. Lesly Curtis, a passenger who lived in Seattle before embarking on the cruise, has been staying in Belfast for four and a half months and has been helping other tourists with directions.
Holly Hennessey, another passenger, travelled with her six-year-old Siamese cat, Captain. They have moved six times during their stay in Belfast, staying in hotels, an apartment, and an Airbnb. Holly said Belfast had become home for her, and she had found a church she loved going to, in addition to knowing shopkeepers by name.
The ship will take three years to travel the world, and passengers have bought their place on board so they can keep cruising for as long as they like. The first stop for the Odyssey is Brest in France. The unexpected delay caused the company millions of pounds in losses
