Doctor denies carrying out 'intrusive' STI tests for Fayed

Multiple women who previously worked for Mohamed Al Fayed when he owned London’s Harrods department store have said Doctor Ann Coxon, who worked for Fayed, carried out unnecessary sexual health tests during medical consultations. A woman known as Kate said she told Dr Coxon the test was not necessary since she wasn’t sexually active, however, her concerns were dismissed. Fayed died last year and was accused of sexual assaults and rape by women who previously worked for him.

BBC interviewed Natacha, another former employee of Harrods, who described the examinations by Dr Coxon as “wholly unnecessary” and “intrusive.” When approached in London by the BBC to comment on these allegations, Dr Coxon denied carrying out the tests. Harrods is currently owned by Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund and the company released a statement expressing their apologies to Fayed’s victims.

Several women previously employed by Fayed have recently accused him of rape and sexual assaults; many of these women did not feel able to report the incidents before recently. Anyone affected by sexual assault can contact the BBC Action Line
