Boris Johnson's 'hopeless' bid to persuade Prince Harry to stay


Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson attempted to persuade the Duke of Sussex to reconsider leaving his royal duties, according to an upcoming memoir. The book, entitled Unleashed, indicates that Johnson had an unscheduled “manly pep talk” with Prince Harry during the UK-Africa Investment Summit in London in January 2020. The memorandum, serialised in the Daily Mail, states that Johnson attempted to persuade the Duke, but ultimately failed, who was considering leaving his life in the UK at the time.

Although Johnson’s memoir adds to already reported news of a 20-minute one-to-one “catch-up” between the former Prime Minister and the Duke, it’s unclear whether anything significant was achieved. Furthermore, despite Johnson’s suggestion that he made the discussion on behalf of Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street, it has not been confirmed by either entity.

Unleashed has, however, revealed an overlap between the royal and political worlds, with Prince Harry and Johnson’s encounter overlapping with an Education in Africa event. There have been no comments from Prince Harry’s representatives nor from Buckingham Palace.

The Duke of Sussex left his royal duties and the UK in early 2020 with his family and currently resides in California. He has, however, been attending events and visiting the UK regularly. Meanwhile, Johnson, who is no longer Prime Minister, has been preoccupied with London’s mayoral role and various controversies
