Salford: Woman and girl, 8, found dead at home identified

Martina Karos and her eight-year-old daughter Eleni Edwards have been identified as the two people found dead at their home in Salford, Greater Manchester. Emergency services were called to South Radford Street on Monday and discovered the bodies of the mother and daughter, who lived alone at the address. A neighbour has described the dead woman as “a loving mother”. She was of Polish-Italian heritage and had lived there for two years. Edwards suffered from a disability and her mother was her full-time carer.

Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances in the case, and officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths. Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley said that there would be some disruption to the local community as police carried out their work, but praised the patience and compassion of local people. A cordon remained in place on South Radford Street.

Flowers and tributes have been left outside the home, including a teddy bear and a card reading “rest in paradise”. Whalley assured the public that the police’s main priority was to keep the family informed throughout the investigation. The officer emphasised the tragedy of the loss of life and explained that a file would be passed to the coroner.

The case remains under investigation. Meanwhile, the local community expressed shock at the death of Martina and her daughter. No motive or circumstances leading to their deaths have been revealed by the police. The community will be supported as they mourn the loss of these members of their neighbourhood
