Woolwich: Murder probe as boy, 15, killed by 'zombie-style' knife

Police have launched a murder investigation after a teenage boy was fatally stabbed in south-east London. The incident occurred on Eglinton Road in Woolwich at approximately 6:30 pm BST on Sunday. According to the Metropolitan Police, the victim, aged 15, was found with a stab wound and passed away at the scene. No arrests have been made, and detectives are appealing for information.

Det Ch Supt Trevor Lawry commented on the tragedy, stating: “Once again, we have had to tell a child’s family that their loved one has been killed in an act of violence using a knife. Our thoughts are with them as they struggle to comprehend what has happened.” He went on to express concern about the prevalence of “zombie-style” knives and committed to doing everything in the department’s power to remove these weapons from the streets.

The attack took place just ahead of new legislation coming into force to outlaw “zombie-style” knives and machetes in England and Wales. The legislation, which will become effective on Monday, will make it illegal to possess certain types of knives and offensive weapons, even if they are not used in a crime.

Witnesses to the stabbing have reported harrowing details of the incident. One woman, who has lived in the area for over a decade, recalled how she ran outside to render aid to the victim upon hearing the commotion outside. “He was going to me ‘I’m 15, I’m 15, don’t let me die,'” she stated. “We need to do it not just when the crime happens but to do something to prevent it from happening,” another neighbour added.

As of Monday morning, police had established a crime scene in the vicinity of the attack and were appealing for witnesses, dashcam footage, and any doorbell camera footage that could aid in the investigation. The victim’s family has been notified, and officials have expressed concern that the killing will have a profound impact on the Woolwich community
