Greater Manchester Police have arrested a second man on suspicion of kidnap following the abduction of an 87-year-old man, who was picked up by a black car and driven 15 miles to Rishworth, West Yorkshire. He was blindfolded and asked for money before being abandoned in the dark. Previously, a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and subsequently released on bail. The incident occurred at around 21:00 BST on 15th September as the victim was walking home from Oldham Central Mosque.
Detective Inspector Emma Hulston said: “We have arrested two men in connection with this shocking incident and our investigation team is making good progress in gathering evidence to establish the full circumstances. Whilst incidents of this nature can cause alarm in the community, we do believe it was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.”
The second man, aged 24, was arrested in Royton and is being detained by police for questioning. Anyone with information is urged to come forward and contact the Greater Manchester Police.
