Gavin and Stacey Christmas special cast bid farewell to Barry


The much-anticipated finale of hit BBC comedy Gavin and Stacey has been filmed, bidding farewell to the seaside town of Barry where much of the show was set. Crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the show’s stars, including co-writers Ruth Jones and James Corden, as well as Welsh favourites Joanna Page and Rob Brydon. The cast were determined to keep the plot line under wraps and interacted with fans without revealing too much. Gavin and Stacey was last aired on Christmas Day in 2019, where it left viewers on a cliffhanger, and fans have eagerly awaited the next instalment for five years.

Much of the show has been filmed in South Wales, including locations such as Nessa’s slot in Barry Island, the former Oceana nightclub in Cardiff and Pam and Mick’s house in Dinas Powys. The cast confirmed that they have now finished filming on Trinity Street, the street symbolising the heart of the show, and will be moving on from Barry to complete the episode. This is the end of an era for the cast who have had a “wonderful 17 years” filming Gavin and Stacey.

Jones thanked spectators for their patience, as much of the filming was done indoors, an experience that showed how committed fans of the show truly are. Corden also expressed his gratitude to fans and promised to see them soon. As the sun set in the background, the cast waved and walked down the hill one final time to a chorus of cheers. The final episode is set to air on Christmas Day 2021, where all will be revealed
